As part of its Royal Charter defined aim to make IT good for society, BCS tracks and reports on areas of under-representation in the IT workforce, highlighting areas of particular concern for the profession with updated analysis.

BCS produces a number of diversity reports annually, for example focussing on people with disabilities, and workers aged over 50. In 2022 we had a special focus on the experience of black women in IT, in 2023 we focused on disabled and neurodivergent people.

This analysis is based on data from the ONS Labour Force Survey and according to established Standard Occupational Classifications (SOC2010) for IT specialist roles.
