Tell us a bit about where you work and your job role?
I work as a Lead Engineer for Google in Mountain View, California, where I specialize in Search Ranking, Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Over the last decade, I've led teams tasked with developing scalable search and recommendation systems that impact billions of users globally. My responsibilities include leading end-to-end solutions—from high-level architecture and design to deployment—for mission-critical initiatives such as On-Device Search in Pixel Phones and Fact Checking in Google News.
What is your professional background?
I got a Master's degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, where I focused on Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning. I have over 12 years of experience in the technology sector, having worked at Yahoo Research and Alcatel-Lucent Labs before spending the decade at Google, where I led initiatives in Pixel, Google News and Play Store Search.
What drove you to become a BCS Fellow?
I decided to become a BCS Fellow to contribute to the technology community and mentor future researchers. Given my experience building large-scale systems and leading high-impact projects, I thought joining BCS as a Fellow would allow me to share my knowledge, influence best practices, and meet with like-minded people.
In addition, I intend to participate in initiatives related to my interests in information retrieval and artificial intelligence, particularly through the IRSG group. I recently contacted them and considered their response to be very encouraging.
