Primary Health Care specialist group: Prizes and awards
The Primary Health Care Specialist Group (PHCSG) is responsible for the selection and award of a number of prizes and awards.
John Perry Prize: is awarded for excellence in primary care informatics for those with an established career. It is a prestigious award named for one of the founding GP clinical informatics specialists, John Perry who passed away in 1985 and who founded the Primary Health Care group.
Hilidi Franke Early Career Award: is our early career award (£150) for students or those in the first 5 years of their informatics career with the opportunity to present at the PHCSG Annual Conference and have work published on our web pages. Hildegarde Franke was a long-standing member of the group the PHCSG who passed away in October 2018 her blog provides valuable insight into her journey as a patient.
Julian Costello Travel Bursaries: funded by the Medical Software Group, these provide funding for two early career informaticians to attend the Medical Informatics Europe conference, the provide a significant contribution to transportation, accommodation conference fees and food. They are named after Dr Julian Costello a longstanding member of PHCSG who made significant contribution to GP clinical informatics work between the late 1990s and his death in January 2021.
Lifetime Awards: On occasion PHCSG awards Lifetime awards as a special presentations to Primary Health Care informaticians who have made a significant contribution over their lifetime to the furtherance of the field. The awards are made by the PHCSG Committee where there is a need to recognise the individual for their lifetime outstanding contributions to/achievements in primary healthcare informatics.
