A brief history
The West London branch can trace its origins to a Harrow sub-branch that was formed by a number of members of Central London branch in mid-1968. Around that time and in addition to Harrow, a number of other sub-branches were set up (Enfield, Croydon, Watford, Barnet, Kingston and Ilford) and some of these have evolved into the branches we know today. The first recorded meeting of the Harrow sub-branch was held in September 1968 and was attended by 25 members.
A group of interested local members continued to run the sub-branch and hold meetings for a little over five years when a decision was taken in May 1974 to formalise the sub-branch and broaden its catchment area and name to North West London. This proposition was submitted to the Central London committee and following their approval, on to branches board in February 1975. The proposal was approved by the Board and the Launch meeting for the new sub-branch was held on 6th May 1975 at the Railway Hotel in Greenford. 61 members attended the meeting of which, 15 volunteered their services to the new committee. And as they say 'The rest is history'.
