Information Retrieval specialist group: European Conference on Information Retrieval
The European Conference on Information Retrieval (ECIR) is Europe’s premier conference on Information Retrieval.
ECIR originates from the BCS-IRSG Colloquium for Information Retrieval, which the BCS Information Retrieval Specialist Group began running in 1979.
This became a successful annual conference for young researchers in Information Retrieval, and then developed into a European conference in 2002 to reflect the increased popularity, importance and international reach of the event. Since 2018 ECIR has been ranked as a CORE A conference.
Despite its high profile, ECIR also remains a forum for early-career researchers in the area of Information Retrieval with a vision to:
- provide a supportive forum for which their research can be presented, discussed and debated;
- provide feedback from experienced Information Retrieval researchers;
- facilitate a large student audience as well as established researchers by ensuring that the costs are primarily supported through sponsorship.
The conference programme typically includes workshops and tutorials, parallel streams of presentations and an Industry Day.
The conference usually takes place either before or soon after Easter each year in a European university.
