Welcome to our group!

Welcome to the Health and Care AI Specialist Group. Our primary goals are to promote better understanding between healthcare and computing professions about the potential and reality of AI in the NHS, to discuss barriers and to develop a simpler innovation pathway. If you want to get involved or have any ideas for our forthcoming programme, please get in touch at groups@bcs.uk

Our Aims

  1. Promoting better understanding between healthcare and computing professions about the potential and reality of AI in the NHS (eg. NHS data and record standards)
  2. Helping healthcare AI researchers, startups and developers to understand the opportunities and challenges of working in healthcare, including the relevant regulatory frameworks
  3. Promoting a more evidence-based approach to the development, testing and adoption of high-quality AI in healthcare
  4. Working with AI developers to:
  • Understand barriers they face during development and implementation (the “last mile”)
  • Bring together regulators, clinical professions, health services and developers in a safe setting to discuss these barriers, how to harmonise the approaches
  • Develop a simpler innovation pathway for healthcare AI

Scope

Our scope is Artificial Intelligence in Health and Care, which includes AI used in other health-related areas such as bioinformatics, life sciences and medical technology, environmental and veterinary science.
