The theme to produce a single Power Point slide on: “How Computing can address the Energy Crisis”
Closing date for submissions: Saturday 22 April 2023 (International Earth Day)
Entry requires a single Power Point slide, providing a visual information for the idea.
Entries from outside the UK are particularly encouraged
There are two categories:
- Open, for all BCS members, whether in the UK and Overseas, submit your idea either as an individual or as a group (must contain at least one BCS member).
- Student, for all students from primary to post-graduate courses, whether full time or part-time, in 2022/2023
For all categories entries may be either from an Individual or a Group.
For the Student category entries should be collated by a member of staff for the establishment (not necessary to be a BCS member), who would aggregate the entries and email them to us as a single file.
The process
For the Open Category, email your entry directly to GreenITcomp@bcs.org, copy to margaret.ross@bcs.org.uk and to Femi.isiaq@solent.ac.uk, with GreenIT comp and the category “Open”, in the subject line, with your name(s), city and country, and BCS number.
For the Student Category, entries from the educational establishment should be submitted in one file by a member of staff, to GreenITcomp@bcs.org, copy to margaret.ross@bcs.org.uk, and to Femi.isiaq@solent.ac.uk, with GreenIT comp and the category “Student”, name of the educational establishment, city and country in the subject line.
For students having home-study, rather than conventional school attendance, a single person acting as point of contact for that region can submit the entries, but prior contact must be made in advance, with details of the group to be represented.
Each academic establishment or regional home study group may submit up to 30 entries for each competition; it is left to the points of contact to sift down to this limit, if more than 30 entries are submitted to them.
For both the Open and the Student categories:
Each entry should comprise a single Power Point file, containing images and text written in English;
Each member or group is allowed to submit up to 4 entries;
All entries must be free from any copyright, potential legal limitations or other issues that might cause offence
Entries from outside the UK are to be encouraged
After the deadline, the entries will be assessed by a panel, and the results published on the Green IT SG web page. The judges’ decision is final.
Competition entry deadline for all categories: 12.00 (noon) Saturday 22 April 2023 (International Earth Day)
The authors of winning entries will receive a Certificate.
