The societal aspect of ICT and sustainability includes examples such as how IT may affect democracy, access to services or the impact on culture and community.

Entry requires a single power point slide, providing a visual poster for the idea.

There are four competitions, each having an entry category as follows...

Categories

1. Open category, for all BCS members, whether in the UK and Overseas, submit your idea either as an individual or as a group (must contain at least one BCS member).

Student categories, there are 3 categories, covering all students (members or not), in the UK or abroad.

2. Students at Secondary schools, up to the approximate age of 16;

3. Students at Further Education establishments, up to the approximate age of 18 or 19;

4. Students at Universities or other Higher Education establishments, on undergraduate or post graduate courses, whether full time or part-time.

For all category entries may be either an Individual or Group.

For category 2 (Secondary students) and 3 (FE) only, entries should be collated by a member of staff for the establishment (not necessary to be a BCS member, but normally an employee), who would aggregate the entries and email them to us as a single file.

The process

  1. For Categories 1, email your entry directly to GreenITcomp@bcs.org, copy Margaret.ross@solent.ac.uk, and hbwu0812@gmail.com, with GreenITcomp and the category in “1 Open”, in the subject line, with your city and country, as soon as possible, and no later than Monday 24 July 2017;
  2. For Categories 2, entries from a secondary school should be submitted in one file by a member of staff,  to GreenITcomp@bcs.org, copy Margaret.ross@solent.ac.uk, and hbwu0812@gmail.com, with GreenITcomp and the category in “2 School”, name of the school, city and country the in the subject line, as soon as possible, and no later than Monday 24 July 2017;
  3. For Categories 3, entries from a Further Education establishments secondary should be submitted in one file by a member of staff, to GreenITcomp@bcs.org, copy Margaret.ross@solent.ac.uk, and hbwu0812@gmail.com with GreenITcomp and the category in “3 FE”, the name of the FE establishment, city and country, in the subject line, as soon as possible, and no later than Monday 24 July 2017;
  4. For Categories 4, email your entry directly to GreenITcomp@bcs.org, copy Margaret.ross@solent.ac.uk, and hbwu0812@gmail.com, with GreenITcomp and the category in “4 HE”, the name of the HE establishments, city and country, in the subject line, as soon as possible, and no later than Monday 24 July 2017

For both the Open and the 3 Student Categories

Each entry should comprise a single PowerPoint file, containing images and text written in English;

Each member or group is allowed to submit up to 4 entries;

After the deadline, the entries will be assessed by a panel, and the results published on the Green IT SG web page. The judges’ decision is final.

The GreenIT SG competitions closing date has been extended to Monday 24 July 2017, due to the global IT issues.

The authors of successful entries will receive a certificate and a small prize.
