This webinar opens a new programme at BCS focussing on under-represented voices in the IT industry and new solutions to helping people from the widest possible range of backgrounds to fulfil their potential.
For example, we know that just 9% of Director-level roles in IT are held by professionals from BAME backgrounds and that women make up just 17% of new applicants to computer science degrees.
And so BCS is proud that this panel discussion features three leading thinkers from across the tech sector:
- Dorothy Monekosso, Professor of Computer Science at Leeds Beckett University
- Nzube Ufodike, entrepreneur, mentor at Wayra UK and Vice-Chair of BCS Central London Branch
- Dr Ip-Shing Fan, Senior Lecturer in Enterprise Systems, Cranfield University and Chair of BCS Bedford Branch
The group will share their personal and professional experiences as well as focussing on key actions and cultural changes needed to ensure our industry can truly reflect the society it serves.
Panel:
Dorothy Monekosso is Professor of Computer Science and Director of Research at Leeds Beckett University. She holds a PhD in Spacecraft Engineering, a Master’s in Satellite Engineering and Bachelor in Electronic Engineering and has received a Royal Academy of Engineering, Engineering Foresight Award.
Nzube Ufodike is an entrepreneur with over 20 years experience raising millions of pounds for early stage businesses. He is an advisor to early and growth stage businesses, in the UK and emerging markets.
Dr Ip-Shing Fan leads the Lean MRO and Management & Information Systems research areas in the Cranfield IVHM Centre. He is a member of the Principal Investigator team in the Digital Aviation Research Centre(DARTeC), responsible for the IVHM, Hangar and Digital/Lean MRO Laboratories. He is working with Boeing Global Services to build up the Lean MRO Laboratory in Cranfield.
