Synopsis
In this talk, I will start from how the weird principles of quantum mechanics have contributed to develop the new paradigm of quantum computing, and will arrive to how some of the classical AI techniques could have found their counterparts in this new paradigm.
I will also try to adjust our expectations from quantum computing, by reviewing its limitations, its state of the art, and its future.
About the speaker
Amir Pourabdollah (PhD, MSc, BEng, FHEA, MBCS) leads the BSc Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) course at Nottingham Trent University, UK.
He acts as the Chair of the IEEE Task Force on Quantum Intelligence, an editor of the Springer’s Journal of Quantum Machine Intelligence, and an Academic Advisor for Microsoft's Azure/AI programs. His research interests are AI, fuzzy systems, geospatial and ambient intelligence, and quantum computing with a focus on using hybrid quantum annealing for optimisation problems. He supervises PhD projects related to quantum intelligence and cloud-based AI.
Since 2009, Amir has worked with a number of research centres in the UK, namely Intelligent Modelling and Applications (University of Nottingham) and Computational Intelligence and Applications Research Group (Nottingham Trent University).
