About the Spring School

The 2025 Spring School focuses on avoiding project disasters.

Success requires much more than simply applying methodology - it requires knowledge, skills, leadership, governance and maybe good luck (or should we say risk management).

There is also the question of what to do when things are going wrong. Could you rescue the situation? Or, ultimately, should you kill it now to cut the losses?

Synopsis

This session dives into the latest research on digital transformations. 90% of companies are running a digital transformation but many of those fail to deliver the intended impact. Using data from 155 digital transformations we analyse which success factors are critical; and what approaches made them successful.

About the speaker

Alexander Budzier's research focuses on the challenges of managing projects, not only in the field of IT but also in hard and soft infrastructure, energy, mega events and organisational change. He teaches and develops courses on project and programme management, risk management, and systems thinking. At Oxford, he regularly teaches on the MSc for Major Programme Management, the MBA and at the Major Project Leadership Academy, a leadership development programme for the top project managers in the UK civil service.

Alexander works with private and public sector organisations to build their individual and organisational capabilities to master the challenges of working with, in and around projects and programmes. He completed his doctoral studies at Saïd Business School in 2014. Prior to joining Oxford, he worked at T-Mobile International and was a consultant with McKinsey's Business Technology Office in Düsseldorf and Chicago, where he advised clients on IT and operations issues.
