Synopsis

This event is for everyone who would like to know more about CITP and Chartered status.

Our expert panel of speakers will share perspectives on why Chartership is important for professionals, and also to our profession as a whole.

We will also cover practical details of how to apply and what to expect from the process.

The panel discussion will be followed by time for audience Q&A and discussion, so please come prepared with your questions.

This is a hybrid event, taking place in the BCS London office and online.

About the speakers

Alastair Revell
Alastair Revell is the 64th President of BCS The Chartered Institute for IT. He is advocating for chartered and professional registrations in computing, digital tech and IT as a means of assuring the public about the competence and ethical practice of professionals in these fields, especially in the wake of recent IT scandals and in the face of rising use of AI.

He is a strategic leader and director working at a national level within the IT Profession in the United Kingdom in a variety of leading governance and advisory roles, influencing public policy and developing professional standards, as well as an experienced business leader and consultant with a 35+ year proven commercial track record in providing independent and impartial advice on management and technology, primarily to professional service firms and corporate organisations.

Czarina Barnsby
Czarina Barnsby is the Co-Founder of ArchitectHer, a community dedicated to supporting and empowering women in technology architecture, and Head of Technical Architecture – UK Secure Transformation Services. With over a decade of experience in mentorship, advocacy, and industry leadership, she is dedicated to driving innovation, fostering professional growth, championing women in tech, and creating opportunities for professionals to grow and succeed in the tech industry.

As a BCS Fellow, BCS Champion, and member of the BCS Enterprise Architecture Committee, last year she guided over 40 individuals toward CITP chartered status. Czarina will share her own journey to chartership, along with practical tips to help others achieve professional recognition.

Czarina is an award-winning technologist, also recognised as an AWS Community Builder and Women Techmakers Ambassador, passionate about inspiring others to grow, lead, and shape the future of technology.

Jo Stansfield
Jo Stansfield is CEO and founder of Inclusioneering, and an inclusive innovation consultant. She is Deputy Chair of BCS Women, member of BCS Council and Trustee Board, and board member of the AI ethics charity ForHumanity.

Originally an engineer, developing enterprise software for sectors like power and aerospace, Jo pivoted to the human dimensions to technology, earning an MSc in Organisational Psychology with research focused on gender and racial diversity in technology teams. In her work she supports tech and engineering organisations with diversity, equity, and inclusion and responsible adoption/development of AI products.

Professionalism and ethics is at the heart of Jo’s leadership, and underpins her support for Chartership and CITP.

Monika Gontarska
Monika Gontarska MBCS is an IT and Healthcare Life Sciences (HCLS) professional specializing in data ethics, security, and governance. With expertise in digital transformation, she focuses on embedding “secure by design” principles to address challenges in an evolving digital landscape.

Monika brings extensive expertise in healthcare life sciences consulting, ethical risk management, and data governance within international organizations. She provides oversight and ethical review for research and development activities, ensuring integrity, transparency, and responsible engagement.

Currently pursuing her doctoral studies at University College London, Monika’s research explores IoT reputation systems and security within healthcare supply chains, emphasizing trust, transparency, and governance in global networks. She is passionate about bridging the gap between academic research, policy, and real-world applications.

As a recognized thought leader, Monika actively contributes to the professional IT community, supporting the recognition of Chartered IT Professional (CITP) status.

Paul Martynenko
Paul Martynenko is Vice-President of BCS Registration and Standards Committee. This committee oversees the regulation of our professional standards, CITP and RITTech, and BCS membership admissions. It also ensures BCS meets its obligations to the regulators of the other professional registrations we award.

Paul was President of the BCS from 2017-2018, and the past BCS Vice-President of Professionalism. Paul is an external Board member of the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology and a Distinguished Visitor at NPL. He is the Deputy Chair of the Alliance for Data Science Professionals. Paul is the former Technical Executive for IBM in Europe.

Philip Sewell
Philip Sewell CITP MBCS is an experienced IT professional with expertise in software development and architecture, specialising in Big Data and a strong advocacy for DevOps. As a Chartered IT Professional (CITP), he is committed to advancing both technical and leadership excellence in the IT industry.

In a relatively short time span since graduating from Leeds University in 2016, Phil has been fortunate enough to work with both small businesses and large enterprises to drive innovation and optimize technology solutions.

Currently, he holds the position of Expert Application Engineer at Discover Financial Services, where he focuses on leading the delivery of a modernised payments platform for credit card transactions across the globe.
