Synopsis

At this event, Dr. Phillip Wardle will delve into how the imaging community within NHS Wales is driving the safe and effective adoption of AI in medical imaging.

He will share insights into the current state of AI implementation in Wales, key challenges, lessons learned, and the future possibilities this technology holds.

Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions on how the healthcare, technology, and government sectors can collaborate to navigate this rapidly evolving landscape.

Dr. Wardle will also highlight the vital role BCS members can play—both professionally and personally—in advancing AI in healthcare while upholding the principles of ‘Making IT Good for Society

About the speaker

Dr. Phillip Wardle trained in Clinical Radiology through the All-Wales Specialist Training Scheme before completing a two-year Musculoskeletal Radiology fellowship in Melbourne, Australia.

He currently serves as Director of the National Imaging Academy Wales while also working as a Consultant Musculoskeletal Radiologist at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, based at Royal Glamorgan Hospital.

Throughout his career, Dr. Wardle has held numerous leadership roles, including Clinical Lead for the National Imaging Academy Development, Clinical Lead for the MSc Medical Ultrasound program at the University of South Wales, and Clinical Director (Radiology) at Cwm Taf UHB.

Until recently, he also served as the RCR Regional Specialty Advisor and Co-Chair of the National Imaging Programme’s Imaging Essential Services Group.

Dr Wardle was recently appointed as Deputy Medical Director (UK) and Deputy Head of Musculoskeletal at Telemedicine Clinic, a large European Teleradiology company.

He remains actively involved in shaping national imaging strategies as a member of the National Imaging Strategy Programme Board and the RCR Standing Welsh Committee.
