Synopsis

The presentation will provide insights into one of the areas where Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming lives - identifying cancers in healthcare. At a time when the government are looking at transforming the NHS through the use of AI this is a particularly topical area for us to learn about.

About the speaker

Dr Annalisa Occhipinti is an Associate Professor at the University of Teesside specialising in Artificial Intelligence and Big Data - particularly as they apply to healthcare. The Teesside University Website indicates that Annalisa " . . .works at the intersection between Computer Science and Biology to develop machine learning and deep learning methodologies for cancer prediction. Her current research topics include deep learning applications for multi-modal data integration, mathematical and computational modelling of cancer, machine learning, survival analysis and statistical methods. Dr Occhipinti has recently received several awards for her outstanding contributions in the field of machine learning, big data and cancer research, including an award from the University of Cambridge for her research contribution. She has also been the PI of several BBSRC and EPSRC research projects".
