Synopsis

Following the AGM, this legal session will provide an overview of the current and upcoming regulatory landscape, followed by an overview of how best to manage risk (from the perspective of reducing legal liability).

About the speakers

Jonathan McDonald

Jonathan is a specialist data protection and privacy lawyer. He advises clients across a broad range of sectors (including technology, retail, financial services and healthcare) on all issues relating to data protection and privacy. This includes advising in relation to, amongst other areas, complex commercial transactions with a data or technology element, managing compliance projects in the UK and internationally, cross border and domestic data transfers, preparing for and dealing with data security breaches and data subjects exercising their rights. He is recommended for Data Protection work in the Legal 500 and other legal directories.

Peter Warcup

Peter is an Associate in our commercial disputes team, specialising in cyber incident response, data breaches, contentious data privacy matters and other tech-related commercial disputes. Peter has a broad experience of commercial litigation and dispute resolution, regularly acting for clients in the financial services, retail and consumer and tech, media and comms sectors. He has particular expertise in handling contentious data protection matters and dealing with the aftermath of cyber security incidents, advising clients on all stages of their response, including investigations, litigation and regulatory enforcement. Peter graduated from Newcastle University with a BA in Politics with History (First Class Honours), before completing an MSc and MA in International Business from the University of Groningen and Newcastle University, respectively. After working in industry for several years, he completed a Graduate Diploma in Law and Legal Practice Course, achieving a distinction in both courses. He is also the recipient of Newcastle University's HASS Postgraduate Excellence scholarship and the Law Society's Newcastle Prize.
