Synopsis
In this presentation, John Booth - MD of Carbon3IT Ltd and Vice-Chair of the BCS Green IT SG - will provide details on the background to the climate emergency, what governments are now doing, especially in the EU and US, to address the ICT aspect and covers the current and impending legislation, the scale of the problem and what we as ICT professionals can do to do "our bit".
John will also provide an overview of some of the exciting projects his company is currently working on.
About the speaker
John Booth
John Booth is the MD of Carbon3IT Ltd and has been working in this field for over 13 years, he is the Vice Chair of the BCS Green IT SG, Chair of the BSI TCT7/3 commitee which develops data centre standards relating to the design, build, operate and key performance indicators and sits on various global committees relating to data centre energy efficiency and sustainability.
Carbon3IT is currently working on a number of sustainable ICT projects including the largest data centre construction project in Europe, the carbon footprinting of both submarine cable networks and satellite systems. John provides expert input into the European Commission, UK Government Dept of Energy Security and Net Zero and the Dept of Science Innovation and Technology as well as Datacenter Dynamics, Data Centre Alliance, iMasons, and Sustainable Digital Infrastructure Alliance. Carbon3IT Ltd and John have been nominated for the Data Centre Solutions Magazine for the past 3 years, coming second to Schneider Electric in 21 and 22 and winning the award in 2023.
John was also nominated for the BCS Society Medal in 2021.
