FAIRS'24 is intended to allow PhD and MRes/MPhil students working on AI related projects to discuss their research.
Agenda
- 10:30pm - Arrival, registration and coffee
- 11:00pm - Small group discussions. Setting expectations for the day.
- 11:30pm - “Getting a PhD (in Computer Science) - Doing Good Research”. Followed by discussion.
- 1:00pm - Lunch - Taken at the University Centre, (not covered by the fee).
- 2:00pm - Student discussion groups. Parallel streams, for students at different stages of the PhD. Discussion of issues and problems experienced by PhD students. All encouraged to share and get involved!
- 2:45pm - Break, tea and coffee
- 3:00pm - Panel session - Focus: doing a PhD
Question and answer session with a panel comprising recent PhD graduates, AI academics, industrial representative and PhD recruiters. - 3:45pm - Panel session - Focus: careers and employment
- 4:30pm - Break, tea and coffee
- 5:00pm - “Examining a Higher Degree: The View from the Other Side”. Presentation by Professor Max Bramer. Followed by discussion.
- 6:15pm - Close

Synopsis
FAIRS'24 is intended to allow PhD and MRes/MPhil students working on AI related projects to discuss their research and issues around doing a PhD with senior scholars in the field and with other Forum attendees.
The event includes:
- Guidance on conducting research and writing the thesis
- Advice on undergoing a viva
- Advice and discussion on careers after a PhD
- An opportunity to discuss work with senior researchers and practitioners

A refund, excluding fees, will be issued if a cancellation request is received by 9 December 2024. otherwise, name substitutions will be allowed after this date.
