Synopsis

Join us for this Fireside chat where we will discuss more about the challenges and opportunities that online child protection presents, and ways BCS supporters can support this important work in Scotland - through Cybersafe, Safety by Design and the Game Changers Community of Practice.

About the speaker

Annabel Turner

Annabel is one of the widely known advocates of online safety for children. She practised as a barrister in cases involving child abuse and continued to work as an advocate for children in the Philippines in cases involving live streamed child abuse, also working with the International Justice Mission on their "Not on My Screen Campaign" to end Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse. She founded Cybersafe Scotland, a not-for-profit organisation which provides services aimed at reducing online abuse, harassment and exploitation, and wider support around digital safety.

Cybersafe currently provides targeted support for more than 5,000 vulnerable children and young people. They are also using this expertise to develop tools to improve best safety by design practice amongst games companies. She also chairs the Child Exploitation Committee for Aberdeen and works as an advisor for other organisations and projects on these issues (including the Dragon S project and the Criminal Justice Committee). She is passionate about bringing others together to support children online.
