Synopsis
This talk will introduce the concept of a supercomputer, and recap some of the history of high performance computing with Cray Supercomputers, from the early Cray 1 to the present day exascale HPE Cray EX systems. An overview of modern high performance computing systems and software will be presented, along with discussion on the future of supercomputing and the associated research challenges.
About the speaker
Tim Dykes
Tim is a Senior Research Engineer in the HPE HPC & AI EMEA Research Lab, where he collaborates with scientific and technical communities on a variety of supercomputing research and development projects. He holds a Ph.D. in high performance scientific visualisation from the University of Portsmouth, U.K., and his primary research interests focus on computer architecture, performance portability, programming models for heterogeneous HPC, and scientific visualisation.
