Synopsis
The good, the bad and the ugly - building a shared understanding through communication
Lisa Riemers, our 2023 annual lecturer, describes herself as “either the commsiest person in a technology team or the techiest person in a comms team”.
As an independent communications, content and digital workplace consultant, she helps organisations connect their people and tell their stories. Lisa is known for creating punchy, accessible, user-centred content that makes information easier to understand.
This year, Lisa asks us: Have you ever been in a situation where you think you’re all on the same page, only to have a last-minute realisation that you and the rest of the team are talking past each other? When you’re communicating with colleagues, customers and stakeholders, do you all have a shared understanding of what you’re discussing?
All too often, poor communication is a root cause of issues that arise between service management and the business teams they’re supporting, between service managers and the consultants they work with, and between IT Asset Managers and their service partners.
Lisa will be sharing her experience as a content and communications professional who’s worked in and with technology and digital teams across a variety of sectors, sharing her stories – the good, the bad and the ugly – and providing us with her secrets and top tips for ensuring that we are all riding towards the same destination.
