About the speaker
Dr Shazmin Majid
Dr Shazmin Majid currently works as User and Research Lead for the UK at EPAM Systems . The main aspect of her role is around understanding human behaviour to design better apps, websites, and other types of digital products that EPAM provides.
Shazmin has an undergraduate degree in Psychology and master’s degree in Psychological Research from the University of Sheffield which provides her with vital knowledge in how we operate as humans. Her previous roles prior to EPAM range from working with criminals with severe mental health issues, improving mental health services in Egypt, to designing apps that use AI to detect depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder.
Coming from a non-traditional background, Shazmin is excited to share her journey with you. She was the first woman in her family to pursue higher education to undertake a PhD and a career in technology. She is thrilled by the opportunity to reflect on being female and an ethnic minority in the world of computer science.
In her personal time, Shazmin loves travelling the world, doing martial arts and spending time with her nearest and dearest.
