Synopsis
FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) is the global standard for exchanging healthcare information between systems. It is free, open, and designed to be quick to learn and implement.
In this webinar we will be considering:
- What FHIR does and how it improves health care
- How it works
- Relationships with other health informatics standards
- How to obtain and implement it
- Who develops/maintains it and how
- How to find out more: online resources, publications, social media, help services, courses
- How to participate in FHIR projects or contribute to them
FHIR was developed by HL7 (Health Level Seven International) a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing a comprehensive framework and related standards for the exchange, integration, sharing and retrieval of electronic health information that supports clinical practice and the management, delivery and evaluation of health services.
HL7 UK looks after HL7 activities in the UK.
About the speaker
Rik Smithies
Rik Smithies is an independent HL7 FHIR consultant with over 20 years medical informatics experience. His recent clients include some of the largest technology companies in the world and leading academic institutions.
He is an active member of the FHIR development team, a regular international FHIR tutor and a FHIR Certified Implementer. Rik is currently Technical Chair of HL7 UK. He was elected as a Fellow of HL7 International in 2022, to mark 15 years of volunteer service.
