Synopsis

Digital is the secret accelerator of so many climate destructive human behaviours. Digital speeds things up, everything from material extraction, to reduced product lifecycles, to waste production.

Every year, we’re producing more than 50 million tons of e-waste, that’s more than the entire body weight of all Europeans.

Every year, over 80% of that waste gets dumped.

In order to save the planet we must move from a digital culture of “move fast and break things” to “move slow and fix things.”

About the speaker

Gerry McGovern

Gerry has published eight books. His latest, World Wide Waste, examines the impact digital is having on the environment. He developed Top Tasks, a research method which helps identify what truly matters to people. The Irish Times has described Gerry as one of five visionaries who have had a major impact on the development of the Web.
