Synopsis
With seismic shifts underway in the data protection landscape in the UK and EU, this session will provide an overview of key developments and highlight the issues that IT practitioners will need to consider in the transfer of personal data between the EU and UK in future and recommend how to navigate current uncertainty. It will cover:
- the ‘grace period’ or ‘bridge’ for transfers from the EU to the UK;
- the possibility of two European Commission adequacy decisions in respect of EU to UK transfers and the latest developments, including the recent publication of draft adequacy decisions;
- the new UK GDPR (applicable since the end of 2020) and new transitional provisions for international transfers from the UK (this time, in UK domestic law);
- a ‘separation’ period under the EU Withdrawal Agreement in respect of legacy data; and
- the latest developments on new EU standard contractual clauses.
