Synopsis
The overall goal of this webinar is to report and discuss the effects of motivation-enhancement approaches, such as playful design and gamification, using social virtual reality in e-learning and open education.
I will present results from four case studies on the effects of the application of game-based learning in distance education. Starting with insights into the playful design of immersive learning experiences on an ancient civilization, the results on completion rates of and user experience in a playfully designed Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) are described. Following this, a gamified framework for MOOCs is presented. ! conclude with findings on student engagement of a gamified postgraduate distance education course on artificial intelligence in virtual worlds.
This presentation originally presented at the previous e-Learning group’s INSPIRE conference has been updated to discuss not only the potentials for smartphone learning but also to address m-learning in the time of COVID.
