Industry collaboration is still fairly new when it comes to Open APIs and co-developing solutions to solely meet consumer needs. With the birth of web APIs we race towards the extended deadline of Open Banking (PSD2) and other Directives to unlock more value for consumers.
What do APIs currently mean to the ecosystem of financial services and collaboration? Do regulatory or consumer tailwinds present greater incentives? What key considerations of both technology and implementation need to be taken in order to ensure the ecosystem develops solutions that meet consumer needs?
How do we navigate the ethics & security of such broad solutions designed by industry collaboration? How can regulators support these initiatives?

Nkiru Uwaje, Global Innovation Manager at SWIFT (Keynote speaker)
Nkiru leads SWIFT’s engagement with the FinTech innovation ecosystem and is responsible for managing and sourcing co-innovation opportunities that accelerate and de-risk SWIFT’s strategy. Prior to joining SWIFT, Nkiru worked at the forefront of new technology as the Blockchain Strategy Lead for Dell Technologies UK & Ireland. Here she championed Dell Technologies’ partnership with VMWare to build and bring to market their Enterprise Blockchain platform.
In her wider capacity, Nkiru acts as a trusted adviser to the financial sector on digital transformation and innovation. She regularly speaks at global events about her experience of implementing emerging technologies such as DLT.
Makella Benjamin (Moderator)
Makella is the founder of a London-based FX advisory business. She has over a decade of experience as a sales and business development executive for City based FX firms. She attained a Mathematics degree from King's College London and is passionate about financial inclusion and building sustainable communities.
Karan Shanmugarajah, CEO of WealthKernel (Panellist)
Karan is the CEO of WealthKernel, a regulated cloud-based provider of modular APIs and solutions to enable businesses to offer savings and investments services. Prior to co-founding WealthKernel, Karan was a portfolio manager at Barclay. He is a CFA® charterholder and holds an MSc in Accounting and Finance from CASS Business School in London.
Kay Akinwunmi, CEO and co-founder of Zazuu (Panellist)
Kay is the CEO and co-founder of Zazuu, a London-based remittance marketplace on a mission to create financial freedom for Africans all over the world. Prior to Zazuu, Kay worked as a consultant for over a decade, helping small businesses, start-ups and blue chip firms build world class digital products.
Urenna Okonkwo, Founder of fintech startup Cashmere (Panellist)
Urenna is an award-winning entrepreneur and founder of fintech startup, Cashmere, a social savings app that helps young female aspirational consumers save for and buy their favourite luxury products and experiences in a financially responsible manner. Prior to this, she was a financial adviser at a leading wealth management firm, providing financial & investment advice to high net worth individuals and a forensic analyst at KPMG. Her work has been featured in a number of media outlets and publications including Forbes, Vogue Business, BBC, Sky News, The Evening Standard & more.
