Synopsis

The type of technology over the years of presenting traffic information has altered enormously, and Judy will be sharing the journey from phone calls to an overused laptop to gather information, create scripts and broadcast, these days, from her utility room.

Richard Latto discusses his transmission from technical IT to programme presenter, including his involvement in the country wide celebrations of the mayflower leaving Southampton 400 years ago.

About the speaker

Judy Goodlet, Radio Solent's Romance (Road Management System for Europe)

A hugely varied career in Human Resources, Training and Adult Education with CIPD and educational qualifications bought Judy to Solent University for a part-time Information Systems course and membership of the British Computer Society many years ago! It lead to lecturing in IT and then creating her own IT Training and Systems development company which, rather oddly, led to a career in Broadcasting with the BBC!

For almost 20 years Judy has been the voice of traffic and travel for BBC Radio Solent during the morning rush hour...as well as a stint presenting the early breakfast show and co-producing the afternoon show...but always keeping the M27 drivers informed!

Inspired by Adult Learning Week one year, Judy launched, on air, a weekly IT fact sheet which included a tip for beginners, intermediate and advanced users, every week for 5 years! Thank goodness she had her knowledge as a Microsoft Office User Specialist (Mous) Master to fall back on. Over 12,000 people received it and even now people come up to her to chat about it.

Our events are for adults aged 16 years and over.
