SYNOPSIS
To support the upcoming Human-Computer Interaction conference at Keele University - Dr Gavin Sim, chair of the BCS Interaction group, will present in two main areas.
The first part will be a discussion relating to the Interaction group and the role that the British HCI conference has within academia and industry. Reflecting over the last few years, challenges will be highlighted including aligning industry needs with academic research, what is HCI in 2020 and future directions and initiatives will be proposed.
The second part of the talk will focus on his own research on usability and user experience, presenting a number of case studies on evaluating the technology. This will include evaluating the long-term user experience of educational technology, to highlight the dynamic nature of user experience in contrast to evaluating momentary experiences. Critical discourse of these case studies will occur with respect to the impact of this work under REF 2021, highlighting the need to align academia and industry to solve real-world problems within the continually evolving digital economy or 4th Industrial Revolution.
