Synopsis
John Lake’s experience of ‘Remote Working’ ranges back to the 1990’s, when he was responsible for the UK part of a larger Canada-based organisation, through to today as, in common with so many others, he is working-from-home in a professional (project management) role. In this presentation John will share his experience and thoughts on how we can best survive and thrive in our careers, through the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
Many lives have been greatly disturbed by the current pandemic event and many questions remain about how things will progress through and following the pandemic. Although there are no ‘definite answers’ it can help to ‘stand back’ and look at trends; pre-pandemic, what is happening now and where this may lead us in our careers in the follow-on years.
John will recount some ‘pitfalls’ that he has experienced when reporting remotely, how he ‘survived and progressed’ through many organisational and technology changes and will examine what the future ‘workplace’ may look like when the current pandemic is over.
About the speaker
John Lake B.Sc(Hons) ChPP MAPM RPP CEng MIET
Since graduating with an electronics degree John’s career has progressed through a range of appointments in electronics engineering and project management spanning over 40 years; including 10 years as Head of Project Delivery in a systems integrator SME and 9 years as Managing Director of an SME delivering telecommunications test solutions.
John is keen to share his experience and knowledge; to help promote best practice within the professional community. He is an active volunteer for the APM Contracts and Procurement (C&P) Specific Interest Group (SIG).
