SYNOPSIS
Some members of SIGIST have been supporting the MIT-sponsored privacy-first open-source contact tracing project "Safe Paths" since last Saturday providing voluntary advisory and test engineering support to verify and validate the solution. BCS SIGIST is inviting the member community, as well as non-members, to hear about the project working to fight the spread of COVID-19 by empowering people to keep themselves and their families safer through global, citizen-led, free technology. This approach is not about providing location tracking tools to governments and healthcare authorities, but about giving citizens the ability to give voluntarily give information to healthcare professionals in an accurate way IF and WHEN they are diagnosed. It also allows healthcare authorities to alert people if they have potentially been in contact with an infected person.
During this webinar, we will explore the challenges pulling together a testing team of volunteers to drive quality, the technical challenges of contact tracing such as location data utilizing multiple technologies like GPS and Bluetooth. The importance of privacy and transparency through open-source to build trust for medical privacy, and how to synthetically generate and anonymise test location data We'll also be talking about how testers can get involved in the project and help fight against COVID-19 by empowering people to keep themselves and their families safer.
