Many companies have been struggling with their Digital and Agile transformation efforts, despite investing major resources into them. Much technology programmes have been launched (Big data, DevOps, Cloud, etc) and most organisations are diligently aiming to adopt Agile methods across the board. All this to little impact. So, where is this going wrong? How do we know?
This is fundamentally a challenge of situational awareness. The solutions are not wholesale, but highly contextual. Customer-facing services need to adapt rapidly to test what works best to ensure the organisation says relevant. Underlying platform and infrastructures are guided by different dynamics. Connecting emergent innovation, new demand and industrialisation into a flow require a good understanding of value chains and their maturity.
Wardley maps provide an approach and patterns to building such awareness. In this workshop, we will introduce our audience to Wardley maps and give them the first experience of seeing their use with Live Mapping. The workshop will offer some education about maps and work through a couple of examples, constructing a map from some pre-established value chains. One scenario will use maps for an outward-looking strategy. The other scenario will focus on an inward approach of a product or service.
