SYNOPSIS
Hilary: The effects of fitness monitoring technologies in a professional workplace: Increased productivity or reduced standards of performance?
The importance of protecting your personal data. Hilary will discuss her research project which she undertook for her masters dissertation.The research project investigated the benefits and harms of the increased use of wearable fitness self-tracking devices to monitor employees in professional environments (i.e. using fitbits within corporate wellness programmes).
The study looked into the debate over whether health tracking of employees increases productivity or raises anxiety and stress, adversely affecting the performance of workers. After carrying out field work for 7 months with a British Professional Basketball team, this presentation will discuss the key social impacts of the over-use of data monitoring.
