Talk will be at UTC Reading. From there we shall go by bus to the depot at Great Knolly’s Street, Reading, RG1 7HH, returning to UTC Reading by 9 pm. www.reading-buses.co.uk
During this talk John will describe the ways that Reading Buses plan and gather data to the benefit of bus users, partners and Reading Buses. There is increasing use of open big data which are distributed to partners and 3rd parties. The ultimate goal is to understand how this information can enable better use of the bus service.
Reading Buses has GPS transmissions from all its vehicles and these are sent as data feeds to 3rd parties such as Google for Google Maps app and City Mapper app. This results in more real-time information getting to users on their smartphone apps.
Following the talk, at about 2000, attendees will be invited to ‘jump on the bus’ and travel to Great Knollys depot for an exciting tour.

About the speaker:
John is a chartered engineer with project management experience and a track record working from the shop floor to board level, and between suppliers, partners and end-users. His primary focus to date has been on improving fuel and energy efficiency, but he is always interested in wider engineering projects - particularly in getting something from nothing!
