Global IT entrepreneur and workplace revolutionary turned ardent philanthropist, Dame Stephanie Shirley CH has, at last been awarded her 2021 Distinguished Fellowship from the professional body for IT.
Due to COVID restrictions, the ceremony which saw distinguished Fellows Sophie Wilson and Eben Upton present Dame Shirley with her certificate, had been delayed from the announcement last year.
In her online acceptance speech last week, Dame Stephanie said: ‘I joined BCS as a student member at its formation in 1957 at a time when women were treated as second class citizens in many walks of life. The society was as welcoming to me – a young woman – as it was to any young man.’
