The Chief Executive of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT has announced he will step down at the end of the year.

Rashik Parmar MBE will leave his role as Group CEO this month after two years at the head of the organisation and 40 years as a senior member and volunteer.

Rob Deri, formerly BCS’ Chief Operating Officer, will return as interim CEO in January, a role he held for most of 2022. The search for a permanent Group Chief Executive will begin in the new year.

Alastair Revell, BCS President said: 'I want to pay tribute to Rashik’s achievements in raising our influence and standing across the profession. We speak regularly to government and industry leaders about the importance of professionalism across technology roles, as well as proudly advancing the case for computing education for everyone. Digital apprenticeships are a success story; we are looking forward to working with Skills England and ensuring that individuals and businesses have the right digital capabilities to achieve their ambitions.'

Rashik said: 'It has been an honour to serve as CEO of BCS and to lead such a dedicated team. Together, we have made significant strides in advancing the value of professionalism across information technology and beyond. I am proud of our achievements in elevating BCS’s profile and forging partnerships with organisations like the Ukraine IT Association and the Digital Poverty Alliance; we have also become a hub for professional bodies to consider our collective response to the challenges of the Post Office Horizon scandal.

'These efforts have demonstrated BCS’ leadership and commitment to technological ethics and social responsibility and I’m proud to remain an active member.

'I am confident BCS will continue to thrive under fresh leadership, and make a positive impact on the IT community. A strong technology profession is essential for society, and I want to express my sincere gratitude to my colleagues, our members, and partners for their unwavering support and dedication.'
