BCS' Paul Martynenko awarded an MBE in New Year Honours for services to the IT profession

Paul Martynenko, a Fellow of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, has been awarded an MBE in the King’s New Year’s Honours List in recognition of his voluntary roles in support of the IT profession in the UK.
He said: “It is a great honour to receive an MBE. The award is the result of the work of a great many people and it’s as much a team effort as it is an individual effort. It’s fantastic to be recognised in this way. It’s an incredibly exciting time in our digital world and I look forward to continuing to promote standards to our rapidly growing and widening community.”
Currently Paul is Vice-President and Chair of BCS Registration and Standards Committee. He was previously BCS Vice-President Professionalism. He is the Deputy Chair of the Alliance for Data Science Professionals (AfDSP) which was set up to define the standards needed to ensure an ethical and well-governed approach so the public, organisations and governments can have confidence in how their data is used.
Gillian Arnold FBCS, the current BCS President said: “This award recognises Paul’s lifetime contribution and dedication to tech and is well deserved. He has also shown dedication and leadership in his work as a volunteer for BCS, which is hugely appreciated.”
Paul has a long and distinguished career in the IT sector and held a variety of technical, professional, management and executive positions at IBM. He was the IBM IT specialist profession leader in the UK and Europe for 10 years. He is a former President of BCS.
He is an external Board member of the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology, a Distinguished Visitor at The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) and a member of their Science & Technology Advisory Council.
